Makahiki
The Makahiki season was the Ancient Hawaiian New Year festival, in honor of the god Lono. In Hawaiian mythology, the deity Lono is associated with fertility, agriculture, rainfall, and music; all of which are celebrated during the Makahiki. It was a holiday covering four consecutive lunar months, approximately from October or November through February or March.
Many religious ceremonies happened during this period. The people stopped work, made offerings to the chief or aliʻi, and then spent their time practicing sports, feasting, dancing hula and having a good time. It's at this time that the ancient Hawaiians would take personal rest, renewing their spirit and focusing on the simpler of daily tasks. War during this time was kapu (forbidden) and therefore it was a peaceful time.
Today in Hawaii we celebrate and perpetuate Hawaiian Culture at the Aloha Festivals. Honolulu’s 63 year-old Aloha Festivals is the oldest and largest Hawaiian cultural statewide celebration in the United States. What is known today as Aloha Festivals was created in 1946, as Aloha Week - a cultural celebration of Hawai'i’s music, dance and history intended to continue with the Makahiki celebration.

Season’s Aloha to all of our homeowner’s at Koloa Landing. We are pleased to share with you recent photos of the two furnished model suites that are nearly complete. Our 2-bedroom B2 model is finished in the Napali scheme, while our 3-bedroom G3 model is finished in the Waimea scheme. The colors schemes are beautiful and unique; both are impressive and are sure to integrate well with the fine workmanship and quality of the finishes and furnishings. We invite you to come and tour the models with us when you’re in Kauai next.
Construction on the other buildings in Phase One is progressing nicely. Interior and exterior framing along with drywall installation is underway. The roofing structures for each of the buildings are being completed as well. As we move towards completion we are working closely with our hospitality partner, Azul Hawaii Resorts, on many of the details essential in providing an experience that will set Koloa Landing at Poipu Beach apart from others on Kauai’s South Shore.
We look forward to sharing with you all of the new and exciting developments shaping your island home.
Until then, our warmest aloha,

THE KOLOA LANDING TEAM
